Luscious Lips



Brrrrrr!!! The cold has finally set in. Which also means chapped or cracked dry lips.. but don't despair, I have some easy inexpensive time efficient solutions that you can do at home.

Some helpful tips for lips in need of some TLC
  • If you find yourself licking your lips often during the day, make sure that you aren't thirsty before assuming your lips are in need of moisture.
  • Before purchasing any lip care products make sure you read the label. Try not to get a lip-ice that is too oily as this will leave a sticky residue behind when you mug or bottle when drinking fluids.

  • When purchasing a lip care product ensure that they don't leave an ugly taste in your mouth as more often than not you are likely to ingest some at some point.
  • Beware of the scented or lightly fragranced lip balms especially if you have sensitive skin and avoid using one that is too sweet especially if you are going to be outdoors. Bees and other insects may be attracted to it if you do.

  • Lets all ensure that we do our part for the environment as well. Try using products that are not tried out on animals and purchase products that are available in recyclable material.

Some Reviews on Lip Care Products I've  recently used  



I've recently tried out the Hemp Lip balm from The Body Shop and I must say it does an UH-Mazing job of keeping your lips moisturised. Also it isn't too oily or sticky although it is lightly scented which for me was not a very pleasant one :). One of the things I love about The Body Shop is that you can take all your empty containers back and they will gladly recycle them for you! This product is not tested on animals ;D

One of my personal favourites is The Labello care gloss. I know it's been around for a long time but it's just sooo perfect if you want to add a little shimmer or shine to your lips  for a dressy look while still avoiding that dreaded old lip-stick! BE WARNED!! It is rather sticky and it will leave a residue behind when drinking from straws or mugs. It doesn't really have       
a taste and it's orderless   9/10 Kisses awarded

Nivea makes a lip ice men's range as well. This is just like the conventional lip ice although it's quite moisturising with the Jojoba oil and Shear Butter. Tasteless and odourless, it wont leave too much of a sticky residue behind as well.

When purchasing a Lip balm or lip care product try and get one with a good SPF as well. Especially if you play sport or spend hours outside daily. LADIES! AVOID getting those lip balms that come in tubs, every time you put your finger into the tub it becomes a manifestation of germs. Also, try and avoid sharing your stick lip ice/gloss/lipstick with others :)

Sometimes we just need to rid ourselves of the hustle and bustle of city life for some QT and downtime. I always enjoy going to the Stoffberg area in Mpumalanga as my parents have a farm there and its close to Middelburg where I spend most of my holidays. Last Christmas, some close family friends accompanied my family and I to the uBhetyan-O-Africa Lion Park/Game Reserve. It was fantastic!! Ive been to the Lion Park in Magaliesburg and although that one is amazing, it hardly compares to this one. Nostalgic

Soo many memories come rushing back to me as I type this. First year (of university that is) seems so distant. Relaxing on the lawns at campus today reminded me of how time passes buy so quickly. It felt amazing! I've learnt soo much and cherished so many good times with lots of friends and people I've met at campus. Being at Wits has not only allowed me to grow as a person but also enjoy the good times of student life! Basking in the sun, the occasional off campus shopping spree, chill sessions at the Bio-Soc on Fridays and much more! I think what aided to my feelings of Nostalgia was the epic return of Rascals (not so epic for me as I soon read the lable and saw that the product contained Beef gelatin) *sigh. Rascals were super awesome when I was younger. I especially liked that huge rascal figurine that was filled with rascals :) and always trying to throw a few up and see if I could catch them in my mouth lol (I think most of us still do this from time to time with pea

Whether it be nail polish metallic, neon's, or pastels, glitter animal print wraps, nail art stickers and gems or the classic french manicure, taking care of your nails just gives your whole appearance that unique pop at times and can be the perfect accessory. I recently read about a cheap and effective rather quick and interesting method called "news paper nails". Here's a step by step method on how you can use news paper laying around in your house for some gorgeous nails. The Merch (merchandise) aka what you will need (felt so gangster typing merch lol) Rubbing alcohol ( normal vodka will do) Squares of newspaper, cut to rectangular pieces to fit your nails White/light pink/nude nail polish (I used a light candy floss pink.)
